The project focuses on the study of written culture in the milieu of the Premonstratensian Order in the Czech lands in the late Middle Ages (ca 1300–1420) taking into account the development in the surrounding areas with the aim of revealing the broader context of the development of written culture in monasteries of the late Middle Ages. Attention will also be paid to the diplomatic practice in individual canonries and the reconstruction of their book collections. Methodologically, the project builds on the use of classical procedures of the established auxiliary sciences of history – codicology and diplomatics, but complemented by more modern holistic approaches of cultural history and the interdisciplinary use of other methods (prosopography) and disciplines (art history).
